Already changed to an awesome, effective, green, non-toxic detergent but are looking for other ways to make your laundry greener? Here are a few budget-friendly ways to make your laundry safer, eco-friendly, and more energy efficient without adding too much extra work to the laundry process. So relax, stay green, and don’t worry. We’ve got you covered.
Clean cold (get it?) Save a ton of money by lowering the temperature of your washing machine. Virtually all garments can be washed in cold water (even when the label calls for warm water).
Easy stain removal Ditch that toxic, harmful commercial stain remover and do it yourself at home. Most stains can be treated with common ingredients like baking soda, salt, lemon juice or liquid soap. It’s easier, safer...and cheaper.
Hang it! Dryers are one of the most energy consuming appliances in your house. By skipping it altogether, you may be reducing your carbon dioxide emissions by one ton. Bonus: Clothes last longer when you air dry, because there’s less...tumbling than in the dryer. However, if you prefer to stick to the dryer, cleaning the lint filter regularly and drying loads back-to-back will increase efficiency and reduce drying times.
Make your own dryer sheets If you do decide to use the dryer, making your own dryer sheets is very easy. Mix 1 cup of vinegar with 25 drops of your favorite essential oil. Cut a piece of cotton cloth into small squares. 4 or 5-inch squares should do the trick. Place the cloths in an open jar and moist them with the mixture. Use one cloth per load. Don’t mind the vinegar smell, it will evaporate during drying and the essential oil scent will remain.
Ditch the iron The iron uses extra electricity and is tough on fabrics. But don’t you worry about those wrinkles. Just hang up your clothes the minute you take them out of the washer. The weight of the water will help pull out most wrinkles.Use a green detergent Most common, commercial laundry detergent are not just harmful to your own body, but to the environment also. So one of the best things you can do to make your entire laundry greener is to use an eco-friendly, nontoxic detergent. And we know just the perfect one! (Hint: it’s ours)
Doing better, cleaner, greener laundry doesn’t have to be difficult, expensive or impossible. It can be easy and effective. And if you are on this site, you are already one step ahead.
